1976km- Who We Are
Refugees from scores of nations have travelled at least 1,976km to reach mainland Europe. But their journey is far from over. We created 1976km so refugees and those living this crisis can share their own perspectives, experiences and have their stories told.
Our mission is to positively influence public opinion through direct exposure to the realities faced by those struggling to secure asylum since reaching Europe. There is not a single refugee narrative. Only by listening to and embracing refugees as equals will we ensure their voices are heard, their stories are felt and their futures secured.
Like, Follow, Share, Subscribe but most importantly take some time to connect to the people living these stories. They're just like us and deserve everything you do. Check back for regular blog posts, photo series, videos, podcasts and general updates from the front lines.
On March 23, 1976 the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights was ratified into enforceable international law. This covenant furthered the previously established Universal Declaration of Human Rights (December 10, 1948), which recognized the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family upon a foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.
We cannot turn our backs on our founding principles. We cannot allow people to be treated like animals. We cannot withhold from those fleeing unprecedented chaos the very same rights we would expect and demand for ourselves. Because it has been us before, and it will be again if we surrender these foundations.
We can and we will form a critical mass that moves our governments to action in defense of the vulnerable, misunderstood and forgotten.
We can and we will...
In Solidarity,
1976km Team
