PHOTOGRAPHY - FILMMAKING

Ali’s friends describe him as hardworking, studious and kind. When he was younger Ali didn’t like studying because his teachers were not nice, instead he wanted to be a Taekwondo master.

These days Ali likes both sports and studying. He is a rather shy person and doesn’t really like approaching people to take their photos;
“I don’t know why but I get a bit stressed out, I would prefer if people came to me instead, if they want their photo taken.

But in the course of the past semester Ali has proven time and again that he will explore with his camera to find those magical moments in his photography and short films.

Like Ali, his earliest short films always had a balance of seriousness and comedy. Working together with his fellow filmmaker Khodadad Mohammadi, the two produced both a citizen journalism doc and a narrative comedy to relay the struggles they face each day trying to exit the camp to attend school.

Ali AND KHODADAD followed up their first doc with a narrative film “hope”, taking a different approach to essentially tell the same story about what it takes to access education on a daily basis.

Ali was also part of the “If I was a Superhero” project with teaching artists Magda Zambrycka and Pawel Rozek, and social media promotional videos promoting partner organziations like @sporosregeneration and others at @onehappyfamily guided by our teaching artist Leah Rustomjee.
